Programmes  I  Coffee  I  SARSIC

SARSIC, the Sustainable and responsible South Indian Coffee program is a partnership of Prakruthi and the Amalgated Bean Company (ABC), well-known of its brand “Coffee Day”, to promote sustainable coffee farming in India. The project activities are conducted in Kerala State (Iddiki, Kottayam and Wayanad) and in Karnataka State (Chikmagalur & Hassan), India. The main goal is to enhance the living and working conditions of the coffee farmers through sustainable production and trade.

Objectives
  • Build a collective, coherent and coordinated approach towards sustainable coffee production in coffee growing districts of Kerala and Karnataka State, India.
  • Improve the quality and productivity of coffee in the project areas. Increase availability of UTZ CERTIFIED coffee from India and facilitate access of the farmers to certified quality markets.
  • Establish and consolidate long-term relationships between ABC as an international coffee merchant and coffee producers.
  • Demonstrate NGO-Business partnership model for benefits of the community at large.

Expected results

  • About 25 to 30 large-scale coffee producers, collectivized under a forum and they develop a common position on sustainable coffee production.
  • Improved income through increased productivity, reduced cost of production, improved quality and premium price if sold as UTZ certified.
